Heading into the holidays, part of your planning probably includes how you’re going to get from one gathering to the next. With holiday travel so hectic, even getting around town can be a challenge. The stakes are especially high on New Year’s Eve.

Did you know that less than a quarter of Americans plan to celebrate at home? That means most people will take to the streets to catch dinner, meet family, or attend a party. With millions of Americans on the road and a long history of spikes in traffic fatalities on New Year’s Eve, it’s a good time to talk about safe alternatives in the Legacy Area.
DART and Coors Light Partner to Provide Free Rides
Coors Light is once again partnering with Dallas Area Rapid Transit and Andrews Distributing to provide free rides on New Year’s Eve. Buses, trains, paratransit services, and the Trinity Railway Express will provide free rides from 6 p.m. through the end of service on December 31st.
The partnership began six years ago and has provided residents and visitors with more than 90,000 free rides.
There’s nothing like a free ride to encourage you to “chill responsibly.”
Schedule a Rideshare
It is tempting to dismiss this option as cost-prohibitive, but even with the NYE mark-up, rideshares are still cheaper than a DWI (driving while intoxicated) arrest. Even a first offense can set you back more than $15,000 in Texas. Besides, with a bit of planning on your part, rideshares can be affordable, even on New Year’s Eve.
Play the field by downloading the apps for all rideshares in your area to get the best possible price.
If you have a favorite, hold onto any promotional codes or referral codes you have.
Be willing to walk a few blocks to save a few bucks.
Don’t forget to include cab companies because they may offer better rates.

Carpool and Choose a Designated Driver
Is there anything more fun that a little carpool karaoke on your way to a party? Then why not pool your resources and travel with friends or family. Chances are good that you know at least one person who is willing to take up the mantle of the designated driver (DD) for the night.
Perhaps you could start a new tradition that includes carpooling to New Year’s Eve festivities.
The best part of the holidays is spending time with your loved ones, and that means traveling safely. Happy New Year to one and all. Cheers!
