What images pop in your head at the thought of a carpool? Maybe you think of an exhausted mom with a van full of kids drinking juice packs and munching animal crackers. Perhaps you jumped to the latest episode of Carpool Karaoke with James Corden.
These pop culture images of carpooling give the entire concept a bad name. Sure, Carpool Karaoke is fun and amusing, but that’s all it is. Carpools, or rideshares, can mean much more to the average Joe or Jolene than a few minutes of entertainment.
What is Carpooling?
Whenever more than one person shares a ride to another location, it’s a carpool. From work commutes to kids’ activities, carpooling is a wonderful way to get social while reducing costs, fuel use, and traffic congestion. It’s not just better for the environment, it’s beneficial to every individual who participates.
Save Money by Carpooling
If you don’t know how much you’re spending on your commute, it’s time to find out because there’s a good chance it’s more than you think. Depending on the distance you commute each day, carpooling could save you anywhere from a few hundred to several thousand dollars per year. Who doesn’t want to save money?
Not only does carpooling save money on an individual basis, it can actually impact the world on a much wider scope. When two, three, or four commuters combine into one vehicle, that cuts down on traffic congestion and greenhouse gas emissions.
Carpooling to Improve Your Health
Did you know that people who commute alone are more likely to have health problems? Driving alone every day can lead to heart and weight problems, neck and back pain, and even high blood pressure. Carpooling with coworkers, friends, or family reduces a lot of the negative effects. You could even start your own version of Carpool Karaoke!
How to Find a Carpool
In today’s tech-savvy world, there are plenty of opportunities to find a carpool near you. We are trying to build critical mass in Legacy using TryParkingIt, but you can also try any of the other apps like uberPool or Waze Carpool or just ask around the office.
Carpooling is no longer a bad mom joke. It’s a viable opportunity to save money, improve your health, and reduce your carbon footprint.
